Background

This is a charity based education society registered under the name “Baba Uttam Singh Charitable Society (REGD) ". The school is situated in the Village Khadur Sahib, District Tarn Taran (Punjab) and registered at the office of the Additional Registrar of Societies Amritsar number 449 (2013-14).  The society has 12 member committee presided and founded by Chairman Baba Sewa Singh Ji.  The school was established in 1984. It was setup to provide value based quality education to tackle unemployment and to develop the next generation with moral values based on the teachings of the Sikh Gurus.

Who we are

The “Baba Uttam Singh Charitable Society administers and manages The Baba Gurmukh Singh Baba Uttam Singh Sr Sec School in the village Khadur Sahib. Its academic education curriculum is based on the syllabus of Punjab School Education Board (Medium of instruction is English).

With a student population of 2275 children and 57 teachers, the School has 72 class rooms, 2 computer labs, a chemistry lab, a biology lab, and a physics lab.  Events and programs at the school are organised through innovative and competitive activities to enhance the child’s knowledge which inculcate Gursikhi moral values among the students. List of activities and competitions is as follows;

  • State level competition: Science, Play(Dramas), Speech, Quiz,
  • Sports events (Badminton ,Football , Kabaddi etc)
  • Reading & writing competitions (Punjabi, English, Hindi)
  • Environment, water saving, Aids awareness and anti-drugs campaign.
  • Drawing competition
  • Creative use of waste materials competitions
  • Divinity exams.(SGPC, Sikh missionary College, GGSSC etc)
  • Tour/ picnic Program for senior students only
  • Lecture of great Sikh personalities
  • Interaction and questioning with civil & police officers(PCS, PPS, IAS level)
  • Gurbani (Shabad Gyan, Sehaj Paath etc)
  • Turban competition

Mission & Values

The key objective of the society is to provide and promote education, clean environment and sports without any distinction of caste, creed, sex or religion.   Empowering the poor and weak is in the fore front of financial and social assistance to ensure economic independence.  The noble objectives help develop the children into knowledgeable, patriotic and disciplined citizen of India through the provision of the following services:

  • To help the poor and deserving students studying or aspiring to study in the educational institutions by granting scholarships, stipends, books or helps without distinction of caste, creed, sex or religion.
  • To provide food, shelter, books, clothing and other necessities or any type of financial help to the poor and needy students/ children studying or aspiring to study in the educational institutions or also to other poor students/ children who also wishes to take any type of technical education or training etc
  • To establish, run, assist, amalgamate, takeover or help other schools, educational institutions, colleges, universities, technical institution anywhere in India which are useful for the development of the youth in the country.
  • To work towards the preservation, development and maintenance of the environment including work relating to the tree planting campaign and water conservation.
  • To work towards the promotion of games and sports.  Establish and maintain various kinds of facilities and infrastructures for games and sports activities and to act as role model to other institutions in the promotion of sports.
  • To provide medical facilities and medical relief to those suffering from illness, mental-defectiveness, drug-addiction etc. Accommodate and provide treatment to those requiring medical attention or rehabilitation through counseling, medical relief centers, medical camps, hospitals and dispensaries. The society exists solely for philanthropic purposes and not for profit motives.
  • To do such other things which are incidentals for the achievement of the above said objectives and which are considered necessary for the advancement and achievement of the key aims of the Society. 

Leadership background

Baba Sewa Singh, Chairman, Nishan-E-Sikhi and Chief Organiser, Kaar Sewa, Khadur Sahib, District Taran Tarn, Punjab, is a multi-dimensional personality, whose key mission is to involve society through environmental awareness, to live in harmony with nature.  He is a crusader and a religious role model engaged in taking Sikhi to the masses.  An educational missionary, an ardent believer of Sikh traditions, a promoter of sports, through to the innovative setup of a touch screen multimedia museum. Baba Sewa Singh Ji is a unique soul, a firm believer in universal human diversity.

Spreading the light of education in the rural areas, he is efficiently managing a Post-graduate College, an Education College and two Senior Secondary Schools in Punjab as well as three Public Schools in the rural areas near Gwalior (MP, India). Large numbers of students from these institutions are getting higher education in various universities and professional institutions in India and abroad. Many former students are now serving in various prestigious positions around the world.

He is Chairman of Nishan-E-Sikhi a Charitable Trust (Regd.), established in 2006 for the organised and disciplined functioning of missionary activities. Guru Angad Dev Institute of Religious Studies and Guru Angad Dev Institute of Competitions was started by the Trust in 2009, to spread moral values amongst the masses. The Trust also provides affordable education for entrance examination to professional institutions. To promote sports among the youth and to save them from drug addiction, the Trust started Baba Uttam Singh National Hockey Academy in June 2006, which has brought laurels through excellent performance in various National/State tournaments. The students from the Religious Institute, the Sports Academy are provided free boarding, lodging, transportation and education by the Trust.
